There are no tryouts, and we do not cut in rugby. Bring a good attitude and there is a job for you on a rugby team – simple as that. Our coaching staff and your teammates will teach you everything you need to know!

Bring a mouthpiece, cleats and water.

Team communication & weather

We use the Stack Team app for communications and will announce cancelations and updates at the earliest possible time. Information on downloading and accessing the team app will be provided once a player joins.

It's rugby...we will safely practice and play in the rain and cold unless the playing surface is unsafe or the venue calls a cancellation.

How to join the team

Membership Dues & Costs

Each athlete is required to register directly with USA Rugby – this costs $67.57 (known as CIPP fee) and USA Rugby provides Accident and Liability insurance coverage

Club Fees are $325 - Marvin Ridge Rugby Club is a registered 501 (c)(3) nonprofit.

Membership scholarships and volunteer opportunities are available for eligible players in need of financial assistance.

Absolutely yes – rugby in Middle School is a co-ed sport. For high school girls, we can refer you to Charlotte Cardinals

Equipement & Gear Needed

  • Molded cleats – either soccer or football cleats are fine. Baseball cleats with metal studs are prohibited.

  • Mouthguard – our suggestion

    • Don’t use a football mouthguard

  • Water bottle – please bring your own

  • Game jerseys – provided by the Club

  • Scrum Caps - not required, but available if player chooses

Can I join the team if I don't live in Marvin?

In line with North Carolina Youth Rugby Union (NCYRU) rules, an athlete must play for their school team if that school offers rugby. If your school does not offer rugby, then athletes are to play at the nearest school or club that does offer rugby. Text Coach Mitchell on 704.698.7684 for further guidance.
